UniKL Green Building Course

IEN enjoyed being back to teach the Green Building course one year after it started at University of Kuala Lumpur (UniKL). The course is well subscribed with almost 50 registered students.

The course is administered by lecturer, Mohd Akram Dandu (UniKL BMI), who is also in charge of the new building next door, the UniKL Sustainable Energy Living Lab, for which IEN was the energy consultants (project link). The building is about to complete, at we are all looking very much forward to conducting the Green Building course (GB 47103) in the building itself, as several of the designs / technologies / control strategies / innovations of the course have been used for the building. One of them being the 1st printed photovoltaic panel installed in Malaysia:

Not just a UniKL signboard, but also a solar photovoltaic panel powering the building. Technology by AGC.

The three guest lectures by IEN was on the following topics:

  • Passive building design

  • Active building design and systems

  • Lifecycle assessment of buildings

  • Low Carbon and Energy Efficient building case studies in Malaysia

  • ZERO Energy building case studies

Having been consultants in Malaysia in the field of high performance buildings for the past 25 years, IEN Consultants has lots of interesting completed building case studies to draw upon for the green building course. Students often find building case studies quite interesting and relatable, giving them motivation that their green building course studies at the university can be applied out there in the real World.
