IEN is looking forward to speaking at today's TRUE webinar entitled "Zero Waste in SE Asia: Moving towards a circular Economy with TRUE by GBCI". The goal of TRUE is to divert all solid waste from the landfill, as well as from incineration (waste-to-energy) or from ending up in the environment. In order for projects to get certified under TRUE, they must show a minimum 90% waste diversion rate. This is a step up from LEED and other green building certification schemes.
This free seminar took place on 20 September 2022, 2-5 pm with about 100 participants. To learn more, go to the homepage of TRUE certification website: https://true.gbci.org/
The short intro slides by IEN Consultants can be downloaded below:
The slides include a link to this viral video that got more than 40,000 views in a couple of day, namely of large amounts of trash flowing down the Kuala Lumpur river after heavy rain on 8 September 2022, video link:
Motivating factors for myself personally to focus on minimising waste were these two news stories:
Human fetuses are polluted with micro-plastics before they are born. Welcome to Earth, little one!
The amount of plastic waste in the oceans will soon surpass the quantity of fish!
Clearly, we have a huge waste problem that needs to be solved, so the TRUE initiative and others like it are very welcome.
